Operation Christmas Child

Every year, our church encourages everyone to participate in Operation Christmas Child. This year, people have pitched in and provided wondrous love for the children of crisis areas.

History

Bob Pierce is the man behind all of this. After visiting the suffering children on an island in Korea, he wrote these words in his Bible: ¡°Let my heart be broken with the things that break the heart of God.¡±

After World War 2, Pierce traveled throughout Asia. During that era, Pierce was an evangelist and a journalist. Then while on a university lecturing circuit in China, Pierce stumbled upon women who were living courageously among lepers and orphans. Those women were sacrificing everything just to share the love of God. Seeing that, God gave Pierce a vision. That vision told him to create a ministry. He believed in that vision so he created The Samaritan¡¯s Purse.

Bob Pierce met his eventual successor, Franklin Graham in the summer of 1973. Graham had a growing heart for world missions too.

Five years later, Bob Pierce died of leukemia. Out of that tragedy, something new happened. Graham became the President and Chairman of the Board of Samaritan¡¯s Purse.

Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child is an organization to send gift boxes to those who can¡¯t afford Christmas. They get shipped to crisis areas, and BAM! God¡¯s love is shared. The children love getting presents! It makes them feel like someone cares.
